Art Fundamentals

1 semester, 1⁄2 credit

Grades 9-12

This survey course will concentrate on the elements and principles of design. Students will learn the fundamentals with a concentration in color theory, drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and digital art. This course will also include an introduction to art history. Emphasis is placed on effort, creativity, concepts, and craftsmanship.


Intermediate Art

Prerequisite: at least 1 semester of Art Fundamentals 

1 semester, 1⁄2 credit

Grades 10-12

This course will build on concepts such as the Elements and Principles of Art, composition, the artistic process, and problem-solving. Students will develop skills in drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and digital art techniques. Learn the basics of using the pottery wheel and building forms with clay. The course will involve instruction in and student investigation of several mediums and materials. This class will also investigate art history which is related to the work we are doing in class.


Advanced Art

Prerequisite: 1 year of art courses

1 semester, 1⁄2 credit

Grades 11 -12

This advanced studio art course encourages individualized exploration and artistic growth. Students will collaborate with the instructor to design personalized learning plans that align with their unique artistic interests and goals. This student-centered approach emphasizes self-motivation, creative problem-solving, and the development of strong artistic voices. St


Visual Art Independent Study

Prerequisite: 1 year of introductory art courses

1 semester, ⁄2 credit

Grades 11-12

This course is more individualized and specialized. Students will further their education in the area of visual arts they are most interested in. Students will be involved in designing and carrying out projects that encourage self-exploration and creative thinking skills along with improving their technical skills in a chosen medium. Students enrolled in this class must be self-motivated and have demonstrated a true interest in the visual arts program. A grade of B or better must be maintained to continue in an independent class.
