One of the foundations of a successful learning environment is a strong foundation in character, and I'm thrilled to share how our amazing fifth-grade students have been leading the way in teaching us about our first two monthly character traits: respect and responsibility. Their creative, engaging presentations have made these traits truly stick with our entire student body.
September - The Case of the Missing Respect
Our character trait for September was Respect, and Ms. Bartelt's fifth-grade class took a unique approach to teach us what that looks like in action.
They transformed into the "Respect Detectives" to solve the ultimate mystery: "Where is the missing respect?"
The students identified four critical clues for finding respect in our school and daily lives:
Listening without interruption
Asking for permission
Following directions
Responding appropriately
Their presentation was a wonderful reminder that respect isn't just one big action, but a collection of small, mindful choices we make every day. By the end, the case was closed—respect was found, and all students were equipped with the tools to be "Respect Detectives" themselves!
October: The Responsibility Super Squad
In October, we focused on the importance of Responsibility, and Mrs. Mendoza's fifth-grade class delivered an unforgettable presentation that was nothing short of heroic!
Each student became a superhero, with their superpower starting with one of the letters in the word R-E-S-P-O-N-S-I-B-I-L-I-T-Y. It beautifully illustrated how responsibility empowers us rather than weighing us down.
From “Respectful Ranger” to “Solution Seeker” to “Independent Inventor” to “Trustworthy Titan,” the students showed that when we take ownership of our actions, our words, and our learning, we are tapping into our own unique superpowers. They reminded us that we all have the ability to be the heroes of our own lives by making responsible choices.
I am incredibly proud of our fifth graders for their leadership and creativity. They have truly embraced their roles as character ambassadors for the school.
I encourage you to continue these important conversations about respect and responsibility at home. Thank you for partnering with us to build a school community where character thrives!
